Here are brief descriptions and short excerpts of my plays. If you’d like to
read them in their entirety, just let me know through the contact page.
Please forgive the format glitches. These plays are imported from various other computers, operating systems and programs, and I couldn’t always get the changes to stick.
NINETEEN MEN
This play was a finalist at the O’Neill Festival in 2008, and given a reading by the ScriptsUp! company. The writing process began as I looked into the motivations of the September 11 hijackers– and learned that several of them frequented strip clubs, and some of them spent the last night of their jihadi lives unsuccessfully trying to hire prostitutes. http://christinenieland.com/blog/nineteen-men-opening/
COURAGE
I wrote this play about the Blacklist period during the go-go sellout 1980s. It was performed at the Quaigh Theatre, and given staged readings at the Pearl and W.P.A. companies. http://christinenieland.com/courage-opening
PICTURES OF THE DOOBIE BROTHERS
This is the only truly autobiographical drama I’ve ever written. I wanted to capture my late brother’s voice while it was still clear in my memory. This play was produced in the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Summer Workshop Festival, where it enjoyed an extended run. The two young actors actually made their entrance in a car. http://christinenieland.com/doobies-opening/
HAMLET’S ADVICE TO HIS PLUMBER
Two actors, eight minutes, one slightly skewed take on the Bard. This play was named a semi-finalist in the National Ten-Minute Play Contest at the Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, and was a big hit during a party in a friend’s living room. http://christinenieland.com/hamlet-opening
